Visioning 2014

As a part of our ongoing ’Visioning’ programme of evening events, Fathers of Western Thought, performed a musical interpretation of ‘A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man’ by James Joyce which was first performed in The James Joyce Centre as part of Bloomsday 2013.

Fathers of Western Thought are the duo, Rob McGlade and Gordee Lee.

Coming together in Autumn 2010 to write and record songs in a home studio, the pair use a drum machine and their two separate guitar styles to provide the basis for songs that come naturally through improvisation.

As of December 31st 2011 they have completed a project entitled 'Sons Of Western Thought' in which they wrote, recorded and uploaded a song a day for 2011, everyday a new song was uploaded to sonsofwesternthought.com

The project did not unnoticed as their song 'Dublin' (March 21st, Song No.80) was chosen by The British Council/Dublin City Council as the soundtrack to contemporary Dublin in their OPENCities competition.

The project was displayed as a multimedia exhibition in The Market Studios from 16th - 23rd Feb 2012 and was featured in The Irish Times on Fri 17th Feb 2012.

On Bloomsday 2012 (16th June), Fathers Of Western  Thought undertook their latest project 'Re:Joyce - A Modern Musical Interpretation Of James Joyce's 4 Major Works' -  Dubliners (1914), A Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man (1918), Ulysses (1922) & Finnegans Wake (1939).

The project was serialized by The James Joyce Centre every week  from February to May 2013.

'Re:Joyce' was peformed by Fathers Of Western Thought (with Aine Stapleton & Aaron Mooney) over 4 consecutive nights (13th-16th June) in 4 different venues during the Bloomsday  Festival 2013, in association with The James Joyce Centre.

The festival finale culminated in a sold-out double-headliner with Dead Centre's '(S)quark!' at The New Theatre on Bloomsday, 16th June 2013.
